Meet Our President
Robert Bosse
I retired and moved from South Dakota to Riviera Maya in the summer of 2021. I live near Akumal with Sherrie, my wife of 35 years and my pug Dexter. Before retirement, I worked in the broadcasting industry in various positions for over 30 years, the last 23 as the Director of Television at South Dakota Public Broadcasting.
In my free time, I enjoy playing pickleball, spending time in nature and exploring everything that the area has to offer. I joined Rotary Playa del Carmen Seaside in 2022 and have volunteered for several club projects, including building classroom furniture for Cristo Rey school, purchasing and distributing shoes for the Kicks4Kids program, marshaling at the LIV golf tournament, and more. I also produce social media recruitment videos and other media projects for the club.
I feel very fortunate to be able to enjoy the incredible life of an expat. Rotary Playa del Carmen Seaside has given me so many opportunities to give back to the communities in the area and gives me a great
sense of accomplishment.
Member Spotlight
Gayle Collins
Gayle is a charter member of Seaside Rotary. While Seaside is a ‘relatively’ new club in the Rotary organization, it is a very active club. It was established in 2012 in Playa del Carmen, Mexico. A very touristy town with thousands of ex-pats who migrate back to the US in the spring, it’s a difficult place to keep an organization going.
In the short 12 years Seaside has been a club, only two members from the charter group remain. Those two members are Angel Carerra and Gayle Collins. It was established with the mission of helping children and families in the Playa del Carmen area. Gayle was asked to become a charter member because she started her own nonprofit, the KKIS Project. Its mission is to help keep kids in school. It was a partnership from the beginning. Seaside Rotary supports KKIS through sponsoring scholarship students and providing donations for school supplies. KKIS also provides the club with many different volunteer opportunities.
Gayle is aware of the great partnership and works diligently within the club as secretary (for 5 years) and in supporting other projects in the community. Her work with KKIS in the jungle community of Cristo Rey with education support, has given the club other opportunities such as providing clean water, providing shoes for kids, and adopt-a-classroom activities.
