Meet Our President

Susan Hawley Seaside Rotarian

Suzanna Hawley

My given name is Susan but I prefer to be called the Spanish derivative Susana to show my love and respect to my adoptive country of Mexico. I am from a small coastal, Texas town located on Galveston Bay.

I started working in the service industry at age 16 and never left that business sector. Besides waitressing & babysitting in the early days, after graduation I entered the information technology field and stayed the course for another 43 years.

My husband and I both retired in 2018 and a year later we were full time residents and home owners in Puerto Aventuras, Mexico. It took 2 years of retirement to finally realize I needed purpose in my life in order to feel whole again. That’s when I turned to my local Seaside Rotary Club.

After talking to a couple of friends who were members I attended some meetings, liked who I met, learned of their missions and knew I belonged…so I joined!

Service to others, giving back to the community in which I chose to live gives me a great deal of satisfaction and self worth.

It makes me happy.

Member Spotlight

Monique Boya

I had the privilege of growing up in a world of travel and cultural experiences, as my parents were diplomats. I spent my early years in Potomac, Maryland, USA, where I have wonderful memories, before eventually settling in France. There, I built my career in real estate, dedicating nearly 25 years to the industry. It was also where I got married and later moved on to a new chapter in my life.

Beyond my professional life, I find joy in creative expression . I love painting, dancing, and participating in theater, especially improvisation. My passion for connection and community led me to join Rotary in February 2025. Being part of this organization allows me to channel my dedication to helping others in a meaningful way.

Living in Playa del Carmen is another exciting chapter in my journey. I feel incredibly fortunate to embrace the expat life in such a vibrant place. Although I only joined Rotary Playa del Carmen Seaside in February 2025, I’m excited to get involved and contribute to the community. I look forward to the opportunities ahead to give back and make a positive impact.
