In May 2018, the Rotary Club of Playa del Carmen Seaside was awarded a Global Grant by the Rotary Foundation in the amount of $150,000 USD. This grant money will cover the cost to transport nearly 4 MILLION USD worth of essential medical supplies and equipment to six underserved community hospitals and health centers across southern Mexico.
This ambitious project followed on the heals of Seaside Rotary’s successful contribution of $500,000 USD worth of essential medical supplies to equip the newly built Red Cross Hospital in Playa del Carmen in 2014. This first delivery was coordinated through Project C.U.R.E., a Colorado-based non-profit whose mission is to receive life-saving equipment from hospitals in the United States and make it available in “like new” condition to international hospitals with needs.
Each of the selected communities will receive approximately $500,000 USD worth of supplies and equipment donated by Project C.U.R.E.. These distributions will positively impact the medical care available to hundreds of thousands of people by improving the capacity of local healthcare professionals and enhancing the health infrastructure of each community.
The hospitals that have recieved shipments are:
General Hospital in Cancun
General Hospital in Ciudad del Carmen, Campeche
General Hospital of Minatitlan in Veracruz
The Big 6 was supported by contributions from Rotary Districts 4195 and 4240 and the Rotary Clubs Denver, Brantford, Houston, Valle Verde-Green Valley, Phoenix Camelback, Tempe South, University Hills (Denver) and E-Club of Arizona.
